Google's AI evolution continues as the Search Generative Experience (SGE) introduces remarkable enhancements. The latest SGE features now include AI image generation and customizable writing drafts.
SGE has already made strides with AI-powered summaries, definitions, coding improvements, and specialized search features over the past few months. It has introduced conversational AI to the search experience, making information more accessible and engaging.
In a significant development, SGE now empowers users to generate images using prompts. This feature allows users to specify the type of image they desire, such as a drawing, photo, or painting. SGE responds with four image results that can be further edited, downloaded as .png files, or used to create new sets. This image generation capability leverages Google's Imagen text-to-image model.
With the potential for misuse and the risk of inappropriate content, Google has put responsible AI usage at the forefront. The image generation feature is available to users aged 18 and older. It is complemented by strict filtering policies that aim to prevent harmful, misleading, or explicit content and avoid the spread of misinformation.
Images generated through SGE are equipped with embedded metadata, clearly identifying them as AI-generated content. They also feature invisible watermarking, powered by SynthID, a technology announced by Google Cloud and Google DeepMind. This extra layer of transparency reinforces responsible AI usage.
SGE is not only a search tool but also a dynamic writing assistant. While it could already produce written drafts for user convenience, it has now enhanced this feature to allow the output of various types of writing. Users can opt for longer or shorter drafts and even adjust the tone, making the AI-generated content more tailored to their needs.
To maximize the utility of these features, SGE offers export options. Users can seamlessly transfer their AI-generated writing to Google Workspace apps such as Gmail or Google Docs. Additionally, images created through the platform can be conveniently saved to Google Drive.
The AI image generation and writing customization features are being introduced to a select group of SGE users. Google plans to gradually expand their availability to a broader user base over the coming weeks.
As for now, these features are accessible to users who have opted in to use SGE via Google Search Labs and are available in English in the U.S. SGE itself recently expanded to India and Japan, hinting at its potential for global reach.
Google's SGE continues to redefine the search experience by marrying advanced AI capabilities with user-friendly features. The introduction of image generation and customizable writing drafts strengthens SGE's position as a dynamic and creative search and writing companion. As AI technology advances, users can expect even more innovations in the realm of AI-powered search and assistance.
